Remembering how wedding cars were decorated!
These tw0 cars were decorated for a double wedding celebrated on 25 November 1948. I love how dolls were placed on the hoods! James Doran married Mary Mirota, and Mary’s brother, Joseph, married Stefania Mosch Mitak, at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
Jozef Mirota escorted his daughter, Mary, to the church, and on the right side Rudolph Mosch waited with his daughter, Stefania Mosch Mitak. The cars are at the curb of Pulaski Road.
Although this picture above is slightly damaged, it was also in the wedding album. I think Mary’s car was the one on the right side in the first photograph.
I’m in a wedding state of mind, so I’m planning to research other weddings this month. Good luck with your family research!

It must have been tricky to drive the car with a doll on the hood! 🙂

I agree! Maybe by the end of the night the doll looked as tipsy as some of the wedding guests!

I love old photos. At first glance, I thought the dolls were chickens sitting on the hoods.

Never saw that in Australia.

I wonder how common it was to put dolls on the cars in the USA? Tying old cans on the back of the car and writing “Just Married” seem more common here.

I’ve never seen it. Why did they put dolls on the hoods of the car? To bring luck for babies??

Amy, I think that was the reason. I know when Mary and Joseph’s sister, Gen, was married her godmother tied an apron on Gen with four dolls with blue ribbons, after the wedding cake was cut, to show how many babies she would have. I have seen photos of teddy bears and dolls tied on the car’s hood, so although not common, it must have been done!
