This family photograph was taken on the Mirota farm, Readington Township, NJ in 1944. Three reasons why I think it was a warm, autumn afternoon – 1) The nearly leafless tree alongside of the white outbuilding; 2) Zofia’s dark dress has long sleeves but she is not wearing a sweater or a coat; and 3) no smoke is rising from the farmhouse chimney.
The draft horse’s name is Big Jake. It only dawned on me after starting our family research that this horse was probably named after Jozef’s father, Jacob Mirota.
“Wordless Wednesday” is a blogging prompt suggested by GeneaBloggers where the main focus of the blog is a single photograph or image. With thanks to Thomas MacEntee for his wonderful blogging prompts.
