For today’s posting, I’m only sure of the names of two of these Beaver College classmates and friends. The photo belonged to Evelyn Stewart (1919-2008) of Kingston, NJ, and shows her affectionately holding the shoulders of her best friend, Elsie “Terry” Terhune. The two young women entered Beaver College in Pennsylvania (now called Arcadia University) during the autumn of 1937, and they graduated in 1941. Most of these friends stayed in touch throughout the decades, and attended reunions together.

The summer house on Boston Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, Ocean County, NJ, belonged to Evelyn’s family, and was often rented out. It required lots of up-keep and it was later sold when Ben and Maude Stewart retired to Florida.

Someone snapped a shot of Maude Eisenberger Stewart doing the laundry and hanging the sheets to dry in the sun. She looks like she’d rather be on the beach!

The photo was taken looking towards the next door house, as can be seen in this old postcard that the Stewart family saved. The large white house with the multiple porches and balconies was the house that Ben and Maude Stewart owned.

Evelyn Stewart had wonderful memories of fun times at Point Pleasant. In these last two photos she’s with her husband, Tom Barnes. The photos were taken August 1943, at Point Pleasant Beach, while they were enjoying a sunny beach day. Evelyn and Tom had married in Princeton, NJ on February 12, 1943, so they were still newly-weds in these pictures.

EvelynTomPointPleasant2Friday’s Faces From the Past is a blogging prompt suggested by Geneabloggers. I would really like to find out the names of some of Evelyn Stewart’s college friends in the first photo. I wonder if that beautiful old Point Pleasant house is still helping other families make happy beach memories.

    1. Thanks, Kelly! Some of these pictures are small, and by scanning them in you can really see them so much better. Glad you enjoyed the post and photos!
