I love this picture of four pretty ladies relaxing on the lawn, looking at photographs, eating bananas. Most likely it was in 1933, after Genevieve “Jean” Pucilowski married Stephen Mirota on August 26th. I don’t know how long it would have taken to have the photos from the wedding developed, so it could also be from 1934.
Jean is in the middle looking towards the photographer. Next to her on the right, also eating a banana, is her sister-in-law, Mary. On the other side of Jean is her other sister-in-law, Genevieve. The woman reclining could have been Jean’s sister. This was taken in front of the Mirota farmhouse in Readington Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The actual picture is only 3″ by 5″. Yes, and I am envious because I have so few. I keep hoping more will turn up!

A pity that we don’t picnic as much these days, isn’t it?

That’s very true, Pancho! Nowadays it is rush, rush, rush! We used to just spread a blanket and eat on the lawn, or pack an impromptu lunch and go on a Sunday drive when I was a child.
